This record is demonstration data, made up to show the layout. It describes no real article.
- Clear: public
- Frosted: withheld, reason shown
- Lit: working now

Fingerprint
When a record is complete it is reduced to a SHA-256 fingerprint. If anyone changed the record later, the fingerprint would no longer match. This check shows that the record is unchanged since it was fingerprinted. It is not independent proof: the record and the log are both served from this site.
Method: SHA-256 of the record as canonical JSON (RFC 8785) with the fingerprint field removed.
Corrections never overwrite a record. Each is added as a new entry that points back to the original.
About & legal
The Glass Room is being introduced in stages. This page tells you what is live; where a part is not switched on yet, it says so.
What the Glass Room is
Every item SmartCal produces can leave a record: where the information came from, which checks ran, how it was scored, whether a person reviewed it, and when it was published. The Glass Room displays that record. Nobody writes it by hand for display, and every item uses the same layout so items can be compared.
It is organised as six walls: Sources, Checks, Analysis, Score, Human review and Published. The Room, Evidence map, Journey and Record tabs show the same record in four ways.
Only what the pipeline actually recorded is shown. If a stage did not happen for an item, its wall says Not part of this item and gives the reason. It is never filled in with made-up text.
Clear and frosted: what we show and what we do not
Most of a record is clear glass, meaning public. Some parts are frosted, meaning withheld. A frosted part always carries a label and one of these reasons.
| Reason | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Anti-gaming | Details that would let someone tune content to score well. |
| Staff privacy | Names of individual staff. The role and time stay public. |
| Client confidentiality | A client’s internal documents and data. |
| Security | Anything that would help an attack. |
| Internal tooling | Prompts, model settings and vendor terms. |
| Legal | Material we are not allowed to publish. |
Records are designed to contain no personal information, prompts, access keys or exact scoring weights. Staff appear by role only.
How records are made and kept
- Each stage of the pipeline is recorded in the item’s record. Where the pipeline did not record the time of a stage, the page says “time not recorded” instead of guessing.
- When an item is complete, its record is reduced to a SHA-256 fingerprint. Once the public log is switched on, the fingerprint will be written to it. The log is append-only and runs 15 minutes behind, so the page never shows work in progress.
- Records are not edited. A correction is added as a new entry that refers back to the original, so both stay visible.
- A record is kept while its item remains published.
Where the public log is not switched on yet, the Record tab says so and the fingerprint can only be checked against the value in the record itself.
AI use and human responsibility
SmartCal uses AI to help gather, check and draft Newsroom articles. Each record lists the stages where AI was used and for what purpose.
When the Newsroom is running, articles are published automatically, and only when every automated check passes. Unless a record shows a human review, no person reviewed that item before it was published, and the Human review wall says so plainly. SmartCal remains responsible for what it publishes, and you can ask for a correction at any time.
What a SmartCal badge means, and what it does not
Badge rooms are not live yet. This section describes how they are meant to work.
A badge would mean that, on the date shown, SmartCal checked the items listed under “Checked” for that organisation using the method version shown. It would say nothing about anything outside that list.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Checked within the period shown, and displayed on the organisation’s own domain. |
| Expired | The next check is overdue. |
| Revoked | SmartCal withdrew the badge. The reason category is shown. |
| Not valid here | The badge was copied onto a domain it was not issued for. |
A badge is not a certification, an audit opinion, a security test or legal advice. It does not replace an organisation’s own legal obligations, and it does not mean that a regulator or any other third party has endorsed the organisation.
Methods and versions
Every record names the method version it used. Versions are listed here with the date and the reason for each change as they are published. Old versions stay available so older records can still be read correctly.
No method versions have been published here yet.
Corrections and disputes
If you think something in a record or an article is wrong, tell us through the contact page and include the record ID and, if you can, a link or document. If we make a correction, it appears in the record as a new entry.
Privacy
Records are designed to contain no personal information about readers, clients’ customers or private individuals, and staff appear by role, never by name. Where an item concerns a named public person or organisation, the record may repeat the name as published by the source. You do not need an account to view the Glass Room.
This page runs no analytics or advertising and makes no requests to other websites. Like the rest of our site, it may receive a Cloudflare security cookie. See the privacy policy for how SmartCal handles personal information.
Accessibility
Everything shown in the 3D room is also available as text in the list of walls and in the Evidence map, Journey and Record tabs. The 3D view is optional, works with a keyboard, follows your reduced-motion setting and never carries information that is not also given in text. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. If something does not work for you, tell us through the contact page.
Limits and terms
The Glass Room shows what SmartCal did and when. It does not promise that third-party sources are accurate, or that an organisation with a badge keeps meeting the checked items after the check date. Links to other websites are there so you can check our work; we do not control those sites or endorse their content. Use of this page is subject to the terms of use.
