Workflow automation

Make routine handoffs easier to follow, and make exceptions someone’s responsibility.

The work to improve

A request arrives in one place, is copied into another and waits for someone to notice. Manual handoffs can hide missing information and make follow-up hard to track.

A focused scope

One agreed process across forms, documents, calendars or business systems. Define its starting event, required checks, responsible person and completion state before automating it.

What we need to agree

Access to the participating systems, a named process owner, approved field mappings, supplier limits and a clear rule for exceptions. Calendar or email delivery is included only after its provider is configured and verified.

How an engagement starts

01 / Find the right opportunity

Describe one recurring task and what a better outcome would mean.

02 / Connect and automate

Review the proposed scope, access, responsibilities and operating assumptions.

03 / Operate and improve

Build and verify a bounded increment before considering a wider rollout.

Useful questions

What happens if a connected tool is unavailable?

The design must expose the interruption and define what is retained, who responds and how retries are reconciled. The exact recovery behaviour is tested for the selected tools.

Do we need to automate everything?

No. Start with a repeated step that has clear boundaries. Keep judgement-heavy or ambiguous work with a person.
